Membership invitation 1977. This survived a flooded basement (sort of...). I did what I could to make it legible once again with my computer and some photo software.

A membership card....

Membership updates had the look and feel of a private organization's newsletter rather than the flashy promo literature normally used by regular bars and clubs. Here below is the very last of the old style newsletters. Change was coming and only one more newsletter would follow without the 12 West logo or Alan's signature as 12 West briefly became: "The West". Also worth noting: The earlier mailings were usually done on stationary that was metallized and had a raised stamped logo! The whole organization just really reeked of class during the halcyon days!

Here are some of the newer style promo cards. The arrival of the Saint forced 12 West to take on some of the trappings of a more commercialized venue, but it was still really a private member association devoted to the West Village dance scene.

Here is the announcement that meant the end of an era ... although not yet the end of the venue.

During the transition from 12 West to the River Club, the venue was operated briefly as "The West". DJ John Ceglia was hired during this time and continued on to be one of the River Club DJs and also worked several other major clubs. Below is a trade mag article featuring John and other DJs of the era. Also: below the article is a year 2001 photo by "Dr John" Bisci of the former Buffalo NY "Club 747" & "Marty Angelo's Disco Step By Step" TV show. It's John Ceglia and I together on the dance floor of Buffalo, N.Y.'s "Tralf" nightclub which hosted the first annual Disco Step By Step reunion back in Y2K. Marty had found this site and having also been heavily influenced by the New York party scene he invited me to his party. I made a vacation out of it. (Marty: Sorry about the annoying tambourine! But I guess you knew that was a part of the West Village dance culture back then and I just HAD to have it!!!....:-))

I'm missing  many more please help out! I would also want to mention DJ John Ceglia who played at the transitional "West" parties after 12 West had technically closed, and who joined the regular DJ roster rotation at the River Club.
